IRRIGATION SYSTEMS

1. FLOOD IRRIGATION                                                       - Flood irrigation is used in areas around water sources where alot of water is available on a constant basis such as near the river.                           - Water from the source is allowed to flow over the whole crop area.                                                                 - It is used on large scale farming of grains which are less sensitive to overwatering

2. FURROW IRRIGATION.                                                 - In furrow irrigation, water is channeled in furrows from the source such as river to where crops grow.                                                                          -The furrow should be made in such a way that water flows slowly to the crops, to prevent soil erosion by flowing water.                                                 - It is suitable for the crops that require deep watering .

3. SPRINKLER IRRIGATION.                                              - In this method, water is pumped under pressure from a river, dam, borehole through pipes with sprinkler mounted pipes.                                                 - Water is sprayed into the air and falls like rain over the crops.                                                                     - It is often used in areas where water is scares  as they are distribute water more uniformly and efficiently.

4. DRIP IRRIGATION.                                                          - Drip irrigation is the method in which plastic pipes with small holes are laid along crop rows.         - Water drip in the area where the plant roots grow.                                                                                      - This method conserves water by minimizing evaporation and is beneficial for deep rooted plants.
